The Turtle camp is designed to be fun, educational and is vitally important for our environment. If you are interested in coastal ecology, want to make a difference, and you think you can handle a week of Maya Paradise. "Turtle camp" in Akumal, Mexico is the place for you.
Turtle Camp 2009 will be hosted at Villas DeRosa Resort and is sponsored by SAVE. "Turtle Camp" is designed for youth ages 10 - 22, but families are also encouraged to experience the camp.
Akumal, is just one hour south of the Cancun International Airport on the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula, in the coastline known as the Riviera Maya. This small comunity with white sandy beaches, sun, surf and swaying palm trees is also a haven for turtles. The Society of Akumal's Vital Ecology is a non profit organization that is helping to protect the fragile ecosystem of this coastline and their special communities.
Each of the three sessions will contain age appropriate material and will include segments of each of the following components…Educational seminars, nighttime turtle monitoring, field trip activities (i.e. snorkeling with turtles, Sian Kaan Biosphere, Mayan Ruins), and community outreach.
