Saving the future for next generations
Coastal Cleanup Day is an event where local school children and SAVE. (Society of Akumal’s Vital Ecology) work together and comb the beaches in search of reasons why trash was left behind. These day projects can be organized throughout the year. The trash then can be analyzed to provide us with data that can help us find ways to protect the beaches in the future and limit pollution.
Volunteers for these events are given data cards on which they can keep track of all the debris they find. This data is then sent to:
The Ocean Conservancy
Pollution Prevention and Monitoring Office
1432 N. great neck Road
Suite 103
Virginia beach, VA 23454
CORAL The Coral Reef Alliance
417 Mongomery Street, Suite 205
San Francisco, CA 94104
PADI Project Aware
30151 Tomas Street
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688
We at SAVE, A.C. wish to help to collect data for the international programs that are set up to help analyze each piece of trash. This information maybe used to develop rehabilitation for the ocean’s waters, its marine life and surrounding beaches. The pollution affecting the beaches and the ocean life can be easily prevented if people take action.
By documenting all that we find, people become aware of that fact that garbage and pollution is there because of ‘people’. The volunteers will have a fun day in the sun, learn from the trash collection, listen to informative talks about ecology, and enjoy their time with SAVE.
